Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš (1877–1962) was a Latvian writer, painter, book illustrator and one of the first Latvian art critics. For two years, the writer’s life and work took place in Kaplava, which he then revealed in his novel “Uplanders” (“Augšzemnieki”) about his experience living there. A memorial room has been created for the writer in Kaplava and a memorial stone has been installed next to Prauliņu house.
