Beyond the gates of the "Andrupene Rural Homestead" Museum, nature enthusiasts can explore the Andrupene Bog Trail (Krāslava Municipality, Latgale, within the Rāzna National Park). Wooden steps lead down from a hill to a depression in the terrain where a raised, or sphagnum, bog has formed. Boardwalks wind through open areas of the bog covered with low pines. The fragrant bog rosemary lightly intoxicates the senses. Walking along the boardwalk, visitors can learn about bog vegetation, represented by mineral-poor plants such as sphagnum mosses, cushion bog plants, cranberries, bog rosemary, heather, and sundews. Nearby, round-leaved sundews wait for their prey.
