Homemaker Ludmila Peculevica produce hard cheese at home. The offer includes hard cheese of different degrees of maturity, cheese balls with various spices, cheese for baking.

Upon prior application the home producer offers a tasting of various cheeses and tour of the farm and the small cheese factory. Ludmila is member of the Latgale Culinary Heritage Network.

Ludmila talks about her passion:

“My dream has come true! This is exactly how I found my true passion – cheese-making. I was sitting by the lake, thinking about how wonderful it would be to do something exciting, something that could fully engage my mind and even make my head spin. After some time, I saw a video online showing real hard cheese being made in a simple pot. I started learning, bought all the necessary equipment, cultures, and starter. The magical process of cheese-making truly captivated me. After two years, my offerings included new cheeses that were aged for only 3–4 weeks.

Hard cheeses, which require longer aging, are kept for 6–12 months. The delightful cheese balls, coated with various spices, mature from 1 month up to a year. Cheese intended for baking can be perfectly prepared on the grill.

For my new cheeses, I use various spices: dried tomatoes, fennel, chili peppers, and herbs from Provence.

I really enjoy hosting tastings and telling tourists how I started this craft, how to make cheese, and how much joy the cheese-making process brings me. When making cheese, the most important thing is to find joy and well-being and to share your emotions with others. If what I do creates the same reaction in others, I am truly happy.”
