Bike route No. 35 in the “Daugavas loki” Nature Park

The route is circular with a total length of 128 km.

Krāslava – Tartaks – Naujene – Daugavpils – Elerne – Jaunborne – Veckaplava – Krāslava

The route is educational and combines architectural gems of two cities—with churches, castles, and a fortress—with natural landscapes along one of the most beautiful stretches of the upper Daugava River. It passes along both the right and left banks of the Daugava within the Daugavas loki Nature Park, which is included in Latvia’s national UNESCO list. Visually, scenically, and informationally, the route is very diverse. Along the way, you can get a closer look at the cultural heritage of Latvians, Russians, Belarusians, and Poles, visit popular tourist sites, and observe the everyday life of local residents. The route crosses the specially protected landscape area of Upper Daugava. It also passes several parks in each administrative region, and there are multiple educational trails near the route in Daugavas loki.

Following the cycling signage, this route can also be explored on foot. It makes for an excellent hike, allowing you to leisurely enjoy unusual, beautiful, and surprising natural landscapes, while observing the plants, trees, insects, and animals found in the nature park.
