Escape the rush of the city and join a guided kayaking trip along some of the most remote and lesser-known paddling routes in Latvia and Europe. Discover the nature of Latgale, its unique flora and fauna, rich cultural heritage, and local legends. The motto of the trip – #ebraucupazust (“go to disappear”).
Offer:
Daugava Route “In Search of Latvia’s Beginnings.”
Under the guidance of an instructor, we follow the route Piedruja–Krāslava along the Daugava River by the Latvian–Belarusian border. Here begins Latvia and the entire Western world – the European Union, NATO, and the Schengen Area; here different cultures meet – Latvian, Belarusian, Russian, Polish, and Jewish. History continues to live in the architecture and the people. We paddle 24 km over 5–7 hours. The trip introduces participants to Latvia’s eastern border region, its nature, culture, and identity through engaging and unifying activities, meaningful stops, and stories shared by the instructor. The route passes through the Daugava Bends Nature Park.
Sauleskalns Lake System Route “Following the Traces of Time.”
Guided by an instructor, we paddle across four lakes around Sauleskalns. We start in the first lake and finish in the fourth, covering about 15 km in 4–6 hours. The trip introduces the globally significant natural values of the Sauleskalns lake system and its cultural and historical heritage – from Latvia’s first independence, through the Soviet period, to the present day. Along the way, there are educational and team-building activities, thematic stops, and instructor-led stories. This route was developed in cooperation with the Latvian Nature Fund.
During the Soviet era, the Sauleskalns area was a popular resort and destination for boating trips. Today, the name gained new recognition after a 2016 expedition by the Latvian Nature Fund, during which unique ecosystems of flora and fauna were discovered in the lakes – among the purest in the Baltics and preserved untouched since the Ice Age.
The offer includes:
• A one-day kayaking trip along the Sauleskalns lake system or the Daugava bends
• Guidance by an experienced instructor
• Educational and team-building activities
• Informative stories about the region’s natural and cultural heritage
