Lake Čertoks, or Velnezers, is a 53 hectoracres sized nature reserve created in 1977, its greatest value being its mysteriousness and uniqueness. It was formed in a funnel-shaped depression of suffusion and reaches a depth of up to 17 meters. Its slopes are covered with dry coniferous forests, which is a protected forest habitat in Europe.
One of the greatest values of the Lake Čertoks Nature Reserve is the landscape and its peculiar terrain. The main manager of the lake, JSC “Latvijas valsts meži” in cooperation with Daugavpils University near Velnezers, has created a wellmaintained trail, which also helps preserve and protect the beautiful landscape around the lake.
